Baby for the Bosshole by Nadia Lee
Emmett Lasker is an arrogant jerk, a total workaholic, and my unreasonable billionaire boss. I can’t stand him.
He’s also the father of my baby.
Emmett Lasker is impossible to work for. He might be model handsome and stupidly wealthy, but he also has it out for me. He’s given me more last-minute and weekend requests than anyone else, ruining any plans I make.
I should quit. And I will. Just as soon as I hit my two-year anniversary and earn out my signing bonus.
But after a particularly awful day at work, a breakup (via text!), and my computer crashing, I’ve had enough! So at 11:59 Friday night, I barge into Emmett’s office to tell him what I really think of him.
Only, that’s not what happens. AT ALL.
There’s something about finding your ridiculously hot boss in a compromising position, moaning your name, that can derail a girl’s best intentions.
And now? I’m pregnant. He wants to “do the right thing” and marry me.
Yeah. That’s never gonna happen.

Baby for the Bosshole, Book 1 of the Lasker Brothers series, was about Emmett Lasker, the CEO of GrantEm Capital finance company, and 28-year-old Amy Sand (the author doesn't mention her last name until about halfway through the book), a second-year associate at GrantEm Capital.
Side Note: This will be repeated in all seven reviews. Emmett was the oldest of seven siblings...each born to seven different women, and all within four months of each other. So with that being said, the seen brothers were: Emmett, Huxley, Sebastian, Griffin, Grant, Noah, and Nicholas. (Each of the brothers' first names somehow coincided with their respective mothers. Emmett was a play on Emma, Huxley, Griffin, and Grant were each given their respective mothers' maiden names, Noah was a derivative of his mother's name Nora, and Nicholas was a play on his mother's name Nicole. Sebastian received his mother's maiden name too, even though his mother had been disowned by her family.)
Amy had been working at Emmett's financial company for almost two years. Although she enjoyed her job, she was more than ready to move on to a different company because Emmett pushed her to nearly the breaking point from the moment she was first hired. With only two months to go until she reached the two-year mark, which would allow her to get the full benefits of a bonus she'd accepted when she was first hired, Amy was more than ready to leave GrantEm, and Emmett, behind.
Emmett had changed since hiring Amy two years earlier. All of his usual hobbies took a back seat where she was concerned because he wanted to "save her" from her hum-drum life. He believed he knew her better than her current boyfriend. Emmett had started asking her for her opinions on gifts, vacation spots, foods she liked, and hobbies. However, what he did NOT know was that whenever he asked those questions, she wasn't giving him ideas on what SHE wanted. No, what she was doing was taking into consideration his current female interest and telling him what she thought that woman would enjoy. So, all of his preconceived ideas about "knowing her better than her boyfriend" were all out of whack.
One of the things Amy detested about her "hot" boss was the fact that he made her redo work that everyone else knew had already been done to perfection, all under the guise of helping her improve her work skills. Emmett would keep her at work for longer hours redoing her work, even to the point of forcing her to cancel dates, and vacations, and to miss out on some much-needed sleep. Such was the case on the Friday the story opened with. While she had marked her calendar, not for a vacation, but for a potential job interview with another, out-of-state company, she told Emmett it was to prioritize her position at his firm. However, at some point in her relationship with her current boyfriend, Emmett had begun stalking the man's social media account. So he believed the calendar event was regarding a weekend getaway with him and not about work (or an interview with another company). Once, again, he believed he was saving her "from a fate worse than death" by making excuses for her to redo another project, thereby forcing her to cancel the trip with her boyfriend. Amy was not happy.
When things went horribly wrong with the work Amy was tasked with re-working, not only did her trip get canceled, but she broke up with her current boyfriend as well, she stormed into Emmett's office to confront him, only to find him in a very intimate act during which he called out her name. One thing led to another, and they ended up having a very spicy scene, after which she stormed out of the office in utter mortification and raced home.
Things progressed quickly from that point. Two days after she hooked up with her boss, she received a job offer she was hoping for and, because it meant she would definitely be resigning from his company in less than two months, she made an offer to Emmett to indulge in a brief fling. The fling led to an unplanned pregnancy, which she did not hide from Emmett. However, what Amy didn't know was that his father had told him and his six brothers that the one thing he wanted for his birthday...was a grandchild...and his birthday was only five weeks away, so he wanted one of them to impregnate whatever woman they chose to get the job done. But...if they didn't choose someone, HE would send them each a woman who would each be a willing participant in the effort.
This book was too long, a tad boring, and absolutely overflowing with information dumping. The novel was 61 chapters long, and it could easily have been cut in half and still achieved a decent reading. However, with the length it ended up being, I was able to put it down, walk away for nearly a day, and almost forget I had begun to read it.
There was all the usual angst, drama, and slight emotional rollercoaster ride, with a hint of spiciness thrown in. It also had a touch of humor that lightened the mood from time to time, but all of that did not save this story from being boring and dull. There were the moments the author went way overboard with idiocy (this surrounds the father of the MMC) that could, and probably SHOULD have been left out. The author could have referenced the father's...peculiarity...in much the same way as she did the FMC's absentee mother's oddities. However, she chose to elucidate the reader more than was necessary.
Both of the main characters needed to be fleshed out a bit more, but they were able to grow and mature in the more than adequate time allotted in the lengthy novel. Their growth was definitely a plus but could have been achieved in a shorter version of the book.
I could only grant this book a three-star rating, and that was being generous. It needed to be drastically scaled back before it could earn anything higher. With six more books in the series, I certainly hope the author improves not only the length but her writing style as well.
Fun read!!!!
Good
I'm about to read the 61 chapters....if it's not worth it I'm going to be pissed...
