Stranded with a rake…
Lady Sarah Maxwell is in a whole heap of trouble. Which is odd considering, as the bluestocking of her family, she normally spends her time ensconced in books, not adventures. But when a snowstorm traps her in the village, the only person she is able to rely on is her brother’s best friend, known rake, and general ne’er-do-well, the Viscount of Spalding. He also happens to be her least favorite person in all of England. Perhaps the world. And yet, the more time they spend together, the more she wonders if Lord Spalding is what he appears or if there is a good man underneath all his bad behavior…

Stuck with a bluestocking…
The Viscount Spalding has better things to do than babysit a bluestocking. He’s got a business to start, a fortune to make, and a broken heart to mend. And most importantly, he’s got several pints of ale to drink because that’s the only thing that seems to help these days. If he were going to be trapped by a storm in an inn, couldn’t the lady at least have been a potential bride and not his friend’s surly sister? She can barely stand the sight of him and they fight like school children whenever they occupy the same room.

That is until their forced time together starts to be fun and Jake realizes that Sarah is beautiful underneath those wire-rimmed spectacles. And when they find themselves under the mistletoe…well. How can he resist a single kiss? And what’s a man to do when all he can think about is collecting another?

Correction. Sarah was the second oldest sister, not the third. ;)

A Snowstorm Serenade for Lady Sarah, Book 2 of the Seasons of Love series, was about Lady Sarah Maxwell, third oldest sister of Lord Tobias Maxwell, the Earl of Evans, and Lord Jacob "Jake" Spalding, Viscount Spalding, Tobias' best friend. Sarah, a bespectacled bluestocking, had never planned to marry. She didn't believe she'd ever find a man who appreciated her for her mind and not just her talents (what little she had) or her looks (which were not perfect, according to her own opinion). Even though she and her three sisters, along with their aunt, had arranged for a Christmastide house party, during which each of the sisters planned to find a husband. Sarah doubted she would find one who would meet her qualifications. Jake, having recently lost his father and inherited the title of Viscount, had also lost the woman to whom he had been betrothed since childhood. While he had believed he loved her she, on the other hand, had found another to love and marry. It was an amazing book. One of not only discovery of others, but also a discovery of self. Both Jake and Sarah experienced each of these revelations. They learned about each other while at the same time learning new things about themselves. It was heartwarming to read. Going from suspicion to trusting, to love in a matter of days, while some might think it too fast, was actually quite romantic. The angst and drama were minimal but in a good way. Once again, the romance was simmering below the surface waiting to be released. The characters were well-developed, mature, though each was a bit insecure due to their backgrounds and the way they were treated growing up. My only issue so far with the series is that the author has failed in each book (first and second) to give the main male character a last name. Most titled men do not have the same surname as that of their title. For instance, Lord Tobias Maxwell did not go by the name Tobias Evans, for Evans was his title, not the name he was born with. I found that a bit off-putting...but not enough to make the story any less appealing. It was definitely worthy of a five-star rating and to be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
