Miss Cassandra Howell is too tall, too bookish, and too smart—but she does have money and a father who wants a grand title for her. Cassandra hasn’t felt a desire to marry until she meets the sinfully handsome Duke of Camberly, who captures her imagination . . . until Soren York, Earl of Dewsberry and her family’s sworn enemy, steps in the way.

The Holwells ruined Soren’s family, and he’s lived on the knife’s edge trying to resurrect their fortunes . . . until he considers marrying the Holwell Heiress. Not only would her dowry give him the funds he needs, he has secretly had an eye on the independent-minded bluestocking since they both first realized the differences between men and women.

She likes to read; he has no patience for books. She knows little of sex; he is a man of the world and willing to school her. Her family destroyed his; his offer of marriage may be her only salvation.
Now Cassandra and Soren must learn to love each other for who they are, not what they are—and the lessons are becoming an exercise in absolute pleasure.

A Match Made in Bed, Book 2 of the Spinster Heiresses series, was about Miss Cassandra Howell, a very rich heiress who was taller than the average man and considered a bluestocking, and Lord Soren York, Earl of Dewsberry, who had become a sworn enemy of the Holwell family (according to Mr. Holwell) when Soren's grandfather lost quite heavily at cards. When Soren's grandfather turned to Mr. Holwell, Cassandra's grandfather, for money to pay his debt, things went wrong and the two families became embroiled in a feud. Cassandra, after having spent 3 seasons on the Marriage Mart, believed she had finally found "the one" in the Duke of Camberly. However, Soren seemed determined to ruin things for her at every turn. No matter what she did to attract the Duke, Soren was there to tear it down or to undermine her each time, even to the point of criticizing her when he said, knowing that the words would hurt she would not make a good duchess. Soren, in desperate need of money to save his family and refill the coffers of his earldom, was determined to marry Cassandra Holwell, but she avoided him whenever they attended the same events. When they attended the same house party at the home of the Duke of Camberly, things went from bad to worse. There was so much angst and drama in this book, from all sides. Each character that played a part in this book had some kind of drama going on, but the most happened with Cassandra. Well, of course, it would, since she was the main female character, right? But even more than that, every time Cassandra thought her life and future were looking up, someone or something sabotaged it. There were also a great many surprises...and not necessarily good ones...in store for Cassandra. Her whole life was turned upside down in the blink of an eye by everyone around her. The thing about Soren I didn't like was that he had many secrets that he waited until after they were married to tell Cassandra...things that changed her world yet again with each new revelation he revealed, with not one iota of remorse for having withheld them for so long. Cassandra and Soren really didn't have a lot of chemistry between them for quite a bit of the book. Even though Soren kept pressuring her to marry him with every meeting, she really didn't want to. Sure there was a bit of an attraction, but not enough to warrant a relationship, let alone a marriage. After a while, there was an increase in passion, but the distrust, hostility, and angst never let up. Unfortunately, this book dragged on for far longer than it may have needed to. It just seemed to drone on and on, with little to no alleviating the heavy atmosphere of the story. Once again, this book was dark and dreary, with barely any humor. Soren seemed to have tunnel vision and was singularly focused on saving his home, Pentreath, in Cornwall. Even knowing that Cassandra did not want to live there, he gave her no choice. When she voiced any of her own ideas or arguments, he refused to listen. When she told him her fears, he shrugged them away as meaningless. When she had doubts, he brushed them aside. I can't say this was a bad book. Yet neither can I say it was a great book. It was quite dubious from start to finish and the two main characters didn't vibe too well. They may have had a HEA, but the flow of the story was just off. Imagine, if you will, a rollercoaster that was supposed to go in one direction and then suddenly...jerks into a totally different one. That's the way this couple's relationship was. I can't give this book a 5-star rating and I can't add it to the Keeper for the Shelves collection. It just didn't earn it. Even the ending was hokey. Nothing ever truly got resolved and the questions remain as to how much Soren truly respected Cassandra. And then there was the question of what really happened with the feud between the two families. Did it ever get resolved? No, I can't say I enjoyed the book.
