Is she making a deal with the devil or a saint in disguise?

Humiliated on a regular basis by the very man that left her at the altar, Lady Evanora’s marriage prospects couldn’t be worse. Until the day her father comes with the news that she is to marry a Duke.
After his horrible facial deformity, Magnus Highmore, Duke of Norwood, never intended to appear in society again; let alone marry. Left to handle his late father’s debts and decaying estate, marrying a wealthy and meek Lady seems to be his only option.
What he never accounted for this marriage of convenience, was that his new bride would be nothing near meek. Or that he would find that strangely tempting. Until someone they know too well dares attack the only woman he ever loved….

A Beauty to Seduce the Beastly Duke by Harriet Cave was about Lady Evanora, a young woman of 25 who had been ruined by her then-fiancee when he left her at the altar. Society had not let the scandal die down in six years, and Lord Lore, the man in question, kept the rumors alive. Evanora's father determinedly set out to arrange a marriage of convenience between his daughter and Magnus Highmore, the Duke of Norwood. With a war wound scarring the left side of his face and claiming his left eye, Magnus did not participate in Society. However, since his father had brought his estate to ruin, Magnus had no choice but to find a rich bride so he accepted Evanora's father's proposal and married her. Magnus tended to believe the rumors society spread about Evanora and made her life quite difficult, even as he fought his attraction to her. He even invited a friend of his to stay for an extended period of time with them soon after the wedding. Peter Holland made certain that Magnus kept his distance from his wife, constantly reaffirming the rumors and making certain Magnus never thought well of her. That Lord Lore would continue to harass Evanora even after her marriage brought several questions to mind. Once he had ruined her and her father's political career why, then, did he feel it necessary to continue that ruin? What was it about Evanora that brought about his obsession with her? For six long years, he kept up the harassment of her. Why couldn't he let sleeping dogs lie? Why did he have to destroy her? Was all this in revenge because she refused to be intimate before marriage? When the direst assault happened to Evanora, Magnus was up in arms immediately, willing to do whatever was necessary to find out who did it and why. (As a side-note, there was one very irritating habit that the author threw into the story. And it was way too frequent. She tended to capitalize words that didn't need it. Words like, "My Love" and, "My Dear". I will never understand why authors feel the necessity to stress words that should be commonplace in books.) Other than Lord Lore, there were quite a few other characters that the reader should consider as the villain (I won't list them here. I'll leave that for the next reader to uncover. ;) ). There was plenty of emotions in this book. The angst was high, as was the drama and intrigue. The romance was minimal, but the chemistry and passion were an on-again, off-again wrestling match as the two main characters tried to decide if they wanted to continue with a marriage of convenience or to make it something more. With everything that was in this book, it definitely warranted a place with the Keeper for the Shelves books.
