Temptations or Priorities…?

Determined to help her oldest sister make ends meet, Louise Potter accepts a governess position in the northern part of England. If this means accompanying an older gentleman on his travels, then she will. There’s only one problem: Louise is about to discover that her travelling companion is not the elderly man she expected, but rather seduction itself…
Alistair Langley has no desire to share his carriage with his niece’s newly hired employee. But the matron he expected to find at his door is instead a beautiful young woman, one he knows he can’t travel alone with. After all, he’s going to visit his brother who is pressuring him to marry and produce a Langley heir—or be cut off from inheritance. When he confides in Louise, together they form a plan. But the closer they become, the more temptation beckons…
Until finally a choice must be made: Love or money? Or is it possible to have both?

Book 1 of the Honorable Scoundrel series, though short, was full of drama, angst, humor, chemistry, and passion. Lord Alistaire Langley, heir apparent to his brother's dukedom, was being pressured by his brother to marry and produce an heir. Alistaire's niece requested that he allow the new governess she had just hired to her home in Whitehaven, which was at least a week's journey from London. Thinking the trip would be dull due to thinking the new governess would be a middle-aged woman, Alistaire was taken by surprise to find out she was a beautiful 24-year-old single lady named Louise Potter. Louise was the second of three sisters who had all fallen on hard times due to their father being careless with his money and dying a drunk. In order to make ends meet, Louise's elder sister, Josephine, took a job as an accountant while she herself sought a position as a governess. Once being accepted for the position by a countess in the far northern regions of England, she was expected to make the trip in the company of her employer's uncle. Expecting the uncle to be a middle-aged man, she was surprised to learn he was just a few years older than she. While Alistaire did arrange for a chaperone, she became ill the first night of travel and had to turn back Alistaire and Louise made the best of the trip, both attempting to avoid the emotional bond and desire they each, even though it was a struggle Both characters were well-developed and the integrity each had was a welcome surprise. The story, though short, did not lack in any way, shape, or form. In fact, it kept the reader glued to the pages. This book will definitely have a place with the other Keeper for the Shelves books.
