Two Regency novellas of true love deep in the English countryside….

Legend says that the first gentleman a lady kisses on the Duke’s Bridle’ Path will become her true love. Grace Burrowes and Theresa Romain say it’s not that easy…

In His Grace for the Win, by Grace Burrowes, Philippe, Duke of Lavelle, has sworn off all things equestrian after his brother’s riding accident. Just one tiny problem: The woman who steals Philippe’s heart, Harriet Talbot, loves horses, and generally only notices men when they’re in the saddle. Will Philippe rise to the challenge, or come a cropper for the sake of true love?

In Desperately Seeking Scandal, by Theresa Romain, ambitious London reporter Colin Goddard follows a trail of scandal to the Lavelle seat in Berkshire, hoping to save his career with articles on how to snare a wealthy spouse. What was intended as a humorous series turns seductive, as Lady Ada Ellis, sister to the duke, uncovers Colin’s true purpose and challenges him to a battle of wits…and wills, and hearts. But if they fall in love, one of them will lose everything. Who will triumph?

It's cool though, made me smile 😃 so you unknowingly made my day better. But I agree they should allow editing and deleting of comments.

Yeah, I'm not sure why it did that. I didn't see it until after it had already posted...and they don't allow editing. Ugh!

And here I came to check out what kind of book triggered such extreme response that it had to be emphasized in such large, bold print lol

One-star rating. With the first book, His Grace for the Win by Grace Burrowes, I have to say, of all her books I've read, this was my very least favorite. His Grace, Philippe Ellis, The Duke of Lavelle was a weak, pathetic excuse for a man, let alone a noble duke. He was extremely lily-livered and without a backbone. Harriet was a very strong character, especially with all she had to endure from everyone around her. She did everything Society rules told her to, much to her detriment, for years and yet, look how she was rewarded. Harriet's father was a veritable ass for the way he treated her, and I don't care if he DID love her. Harriet did literally everything in their home and business, and how did he repay her? Well, I won't give that away, but if I had been her I would have told him a few home truths and then outright leaving him behind in the dust and going on with my own life. Although she was mentioned copiously, the Duke's sister was NEVER in the story. It would have been nice to have Lady Ada and Harriet visiting each other from time to time...especially as Harriet had been to Lady Ada's home in the story. I realize the other story in this collection was Ada's, but it would have been nice to have learned about her in this one first...especially since the author felt the need to mention her, and she WAS the Duke's sister who lived with him. The Earl was the only other character worth reading about. He had a strong presence in the story and was pretty much the only other one, other than Harriet, that had a spine.

This book was definitely not worth my time to read.

One-star rating for this one as well. Desperately Seeking Scandal by Theresa Romain was no more endearing than the offering from Grace Burrowes. London reporter Colin Goddard was an arrogant, deceitful man who lived off the scandalous writings he printed, not caring whether or not there was any truth to them or who they might hurt. He, like the Duke in the previous book, was also quite spineless. He allowed Ada to humiliate him in front of others with very few protestations. He allowed her to dress him in a manner that made him look like a fool...all so that he could use her to write stories for his publication and make money. Lady Ada Ellis, daughter and sister to the Dukes of Lavelle, started out as a bitter, vindictively cruel woman who was out for revenge against the man who had spurned her 4 years previously and the man who had caused her ruination with his writings. She had no qualms about humiliating Colin in front of others. Unlike the previous book, both Ada and Colin managed to have a few saving graces. Still, the two stories lacked a great deal that most readers of romance novels look for. Decidedly not amongst my favorite historical romance novels, so neither one earned a place with the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
