Jared:
It’s been three years since I drove Maddie away, since I let the greatest thing in my life slip through my fingers. Since then, I’ve had to watch at a distance as her life collapsed around her. Now she’s broke, struggling, and alone—and I’m finally in a position to work my way back into her life.
She’s still mine. She always has been. All I need is a second chance to prove it to her.

Maddie:
My life has been circling the drain ever since my dad died and his company collapsed with him. Now I’m working for wages, learning how to live a normal life—since socialite isn’t a viable career option—and trying to claw my way out from beneath a mountain of debt.
I never expected to see Jared again. He broke my heart three years ago, and I still haven’t recovered. And now he’s acquiring the company I work for, and I can only assume he’s back to torture me all over again, as if I haven’t already suffered enough.

But I’m not the same woman he knew. And this time, I’m not going to let him mess with my head…or worse, my heart.

A good read, when you're looking for an emotional story. But, yes, as some body wrote below, it went on far too long. The writer could have trimmed about 10 or 15 chapters out of the story and not lost any of the plot.

Some problems with this one. For one, she isn't on the hook for her deceased father's debts. Thats not how it works; creditors will file a claim against the estate and they may take assets that way. But she wouldnt be paying off charges her father made.

Rather than dump her, he hurt her, insulted her, and belittled her until she 'got the hint' to leave. Then he's mystified that she never contacts him and doesn't seem thrilled to see him. He ABUSED her. You dont deserve someone back when you kill their spirit. She's poor and desperate and he uses that to force her to be around him, effectively hurting over and over again every day. Constantly invades her privacy, stalks her. i just wanted to punch this asshole.

This author is good. 'Has so much potential. I got hooked by the first few chapters then it went flat. I can't get past of the insubordination issue of an employee to a company owner. 'Got bored after a while due to lots of inner thoughts and monologues. But yeah lots of depth in her writing style.

Same here.. while reading the first few chapters, I say to myself, this author would go a long way.. then later I find it ludicrous.. it reeks of insubordination in a corporate setting.. is it even allowed?
