Starcross Dreams, Book 1.6 of The Silver Foxes of Westminster series (and Book 2 of the Starcross Castle series), was about Miss Poppy Miller, lady's maid to Miss Victoria Travers (sister to Lady Mariah deVere, the Countess of Dunsford), and Mr. Nick Parsons, Starcross Castle's head gardener. Although Poppy had a respected position as a maid in the home of the Earl and Countess of Dunsford, it was not the role she longed for. She yearned to marry and have children of her own. She even knew the man she would love to marry, and that was Nick Parsons. As charmed as Nick was with Poppy and all her clumsiness, and though she was all he ever dreamed about, there was one thing to stop him from making her his...a promise he had made long before he ever met her. A promise that would keep them apart...forever. When Poppy learned of the promise Nick had made years ago, it broke her heart. Even though they both confessed their love to each other, Nick also told her he couldn't marry her. The angst and drama in this novella were both high and sometimes over the top, but well worth reading. The passion, though mostly hinted at, was definitely sparkling hot when in evidence. There was enough humor to balance out the angst and other skittish emotions. The characters, though all minor when considering the bigger series in which they were ensconced, were well developed and mature, with integrity such novels usually lack. This was another five-star rated book and will join its predecessors in the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
