District Ranger Cormac Fallon isn’t only a career driven, hot, and mature firefighter… he’s also Tawny’s new boss.
Tawny Brooks, forest ranger and general goofball, knows how much trouble her spontaneity has caused in the past, but flirting with her boss is so tempting and too easy.
Cormac needs to lighten up and his emotional walls need torn down. Spending one night with her boss – no strings attached – couldn’t hurt, could it?
While camping, Tawny meets Elliot, a gorgeous and entertaining Marine who’s perfect in every way and she can’t resist indulging in some weekend fun.
But spending time with Elliot makes Tawny question her feelings for Cormac.
After returning to work, Tawny discovers Elliot has a direct connection to Cormac and he is now off limits. Tawny’s job becomes hopelessly compromised.

Brief Happenstance
Brief Happenstance

This book just made me feel so sad and the ending left a lot to be desired. Is it a cliff hanger? I really can't tell. SPOILER: She starts a physical relationship with her divorced boss (who is quite a bit older), and he is an awesome guy, but neither wants to start seriously dating, though they genuinely like each other and are really good together. It seems like you know where this is going, until one weekend she goes camping and meets another guy who is just wonderful and though nothing physical happens, they have a serious emotional connection and just click. Then she comes back to work and in a very uncute-meet-cute, finds out they are father and son, and both budding relationships just end abruptly. She falls back to pure professionalism with the father, ghosts the son, falls into a depression, throws herself into her work until her body falls apart, then she goes looking for another job and finds one out of state. And that is where it ends. It's over without any resolution or assurance of continuation. Does she actually move from Montana to Colorado? Does she meet someone new there? Or does something keep her back before she leaves? Does she find happiness? Will we find out in another book, or was that just it? So many feels. The character development and storytelling was good enough that I actually care. I want her to be happy and the father and son she was starting to fall for each to be happy. hmph.
