Prisoner by Skye Warren, Annika Martin
10 ratings

He seethes with raw power the first time I see him—pure menace and rippling muscles in shackles. He’s dangerous. He’s wild. He’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

So I hide behind my prim glasses and my book like I always do, because I have secrets too. Then he shows up in the prison writing class I have to teach, and he blows me away with his honesty. He tells me secrets in his stories, and it’s getting harder to hide mine. I shiver when he gets too close, with only the cuffs and the bars and the guards holding him back. At night I can’t stop thinking about him in his cell.

But that’s the thing about an animal in a cage—you never know when he’ll bite. He might use you to escape. He might even pull you into a forest and hold a hand over your mouth so you can’t call for the cops. He might make you come so hard, you can’t think.

And you might crave him more than your next breath.

An excellent and unparalleled work for me. It is not a very dark romance, but the story of two people on their way to the light from the inner darkness that kept them imprisoned. With or without real steel bars, both have lived incarcerated, without any hope for their futures. They both found a way out by supporting each other. Despite the palpable attributes that surround them, jail, weapons, violence, persecution, the work offers a beautiful teaching, it is a very positive story. What is magical is the ability of the two writers to transform a black clay into a fine translucent porcelain, taking the story to its vital point of spiritual renewal. I have already read enough stories about love in captivity and I consider that it is the first time that I found a story capable of leaving a great message, in harmony and balance between its protagonists, without speculating about it was the Stockholm syndrome or not. The story leaves no room to doubts about it, inescapably evolving despite all obstacles and setbacks. To say that I loved this read is almost to say nothing. At this stage, it is the best romantic story in this genre, it has become a point of reference as befits a classic work of great magnetism.

That was good. That was legit dark romance. I wouldn't say it was very erotic, but it had everything necessary to be good story. It had real professional writing structure, but I didn't like the fantasy of the situations after the prison. I don't want to spoil the story, so I'll just say it's worth the time.

I think I already read this... or watched it somewhere long time ago, can't remember which because maybe I was not satisfied with the ending so.. I'm afraid to finish it now, maybe if there is nothing left to read. Don't get me wrong, I love the authors ❤️ esp Skye (I've read most of her books here).

Ok, I would've liked this better but he basically drugged her and raped her. The story kept me invested in it tho. I hated the ending tho, it ended so abruptly. Felt incomplete.
