One Night of Surrender, Book 2 of the Wicked Dukes Club, was about His Grace Valentine Fairfax, Duke of Eastleigh, co-owner of the Wicked Duke Club, and Isabelle Cortland, daughter of a former head of college at Oxford. Val and Isabelle met while he was at Oxford and her father worked there. The relationship didn't last longer than he was at school, but neither forgot the other, even though each married someone else. Both marriages were not good, and both partners eventually died. After her husband died, leaving her near penniless, Isabelle became a governess to the children of a Baron and Baroness. As they traveled to London, they found out the home they had leased for the season was being refurbished, so the Baron asked Val, an acquaintance of his if they could stay with him until the place was ready. Val and Isabelle finally saw each other for the first time in 10 years. While there was an attraction between Val and Isabelle, there was also a good deal of passion that simmered below the surface. It was a slow-burning romance ten years in the making. Only a little bit of angst and drama were in this story. It was mainly just a love story that had taken a long time to reach its culmination. This was a good love story, but it lacked substance and a firm foundation. The characters were well-rounded but the story itself left a lot to be desired. Not five-star worthy.
