In a city as amazing and brutal as New York, crime is not an unusual thing. It is a cruel reality that many unfortunate souls must learn as they navigate the place, something far too easy to accept as normal. That is a lesson that Kara Welsh, a recent transplant to the city, is about to learn in the most unpleasant way.

She was a woman who wasn’t sure she belonged…

Kara Welsh is a sweet Texas girl who moved to New York with nothing much more than a dream and a prayer. In sore need of a job, she takes on the position of assistant for a powerful, wealthy man named Mr. Whitney. Unfortunately, what she initially believes will only take a little time and perseverance soon turns into a crime scene she cannot seem to escape.

He was a man with a purpose and an attitude to match…

Brent Williams is a New York City cop. He is good at his job and he knows it, which is a good thing because if it weren’t for his immeasurable he would no doubt have lost his job long ago. Because as talented with the badge as he is, Brent is not an easy man to get along with. When he lands the job of protecting poor Kara Welsh, he is less than happy. The last thing he wants to do is dedicate all of his time to being a glorified babysitter. But the more time he spends with Kara the less able he is to think of her as merely a job. Things are becoming blurry and that is something he doesn’t know how to handle.

Together Kara and Brent will attempt to get to the bottom of the crime that has overshadowed her life, and they might just find something greater than they were looking for.
