Lady Violette knew two things for certain. She must make an advantageous match to save her family and the lord who agreed would be less than desirable. It didn’t matter that she wished to sail off on a great adventure. It wasn’t her choice to make.
His Grace, The Duke of Waverly, had no intention marrying, no matter what his mother expected. That was one of the few advantages of being a duke and he’d sailed back from Barbados to inform her. On his journey home, however, a beautifully proper lady rescues him when his horse is injured. He can’t help but notice that Lady Violette is in need of rescuing herself. Much as she tempts him, he can’t be the man that saves her.

My Duke’s Desire, Book 4 of the Wicked Lords of London series, was about His Grace Theodore "Theo" Riley, the Duke of Waverly, and Lady Violette Chase, sister to the Earl of Bradford. Theo, though rarely mentioned in the first two books, was the younger brother of both Tabbie (Earl of Sussex book), and Tricia (My Duke's Seduction) Riley (He was called Teddy in those books). Having inherited the title from his late father, Theo had traveled to Barbados and it was two years before he had next set foot on English soil, and then only because his mother had summoned him home with threats of having his funding cut off. I can't say I liked Theo very much. A man who made promises to his family but then broke them then ran from all responsibility is not my idea of a Hero of romance. Violette, being the oldest of three children born to the late Earl of Bradford, was needing to make a profitable match to save the failing earldom for her 15-year-old brother, the new Earl of Bradford, and to provide a dowry for Daffodil, her 18-year-old sister. Her mother had set up a series of visits at the homes of several potential suitors, starting with Theo, the Duke of Waverly. Having met Violette and her mother on the way to his home, he hid his title from them and only gave the family name. Although he was interested in her, Theo had no intention of marrying anyone and he told her so. They parted ways without Theo or Violette realizing that their respective mothers had set up the meeting between the two of them. Upon arriving at Theo's home and being introduced to him as the Duke of Waverly, she later overheard him disparaging her to his family. Hurt by his hateful words, she confronted him and told his family that she and her mother would leave just as soon as her mother had recovered from the stress of the trip. This led to some intense reactions from Theo. The attraction between Theo and Violette had been immediate and a connection that was undeniable. The angst and a touch of drama were apparent. Violette, feeling like a sacrificial lamb, knew what her duty was but that didn't mean she had to like it. She had always wanted to marry for love...not duty and, even though the "husband-hunting" was something her mother felt she should do, Violette was willing to do whatever was necessary to save the family from ruin. Theo, after much consideration, offered Violette a "business" marriage. While he would marry her, he would travel, leaving her home to manage his dukedom. When his sister, Tricia, learned about the arrangement Theo had made with Violette regarding their potential marriage, she was livid and offered Violette an alternative solution. This was another 5-star story and it will be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection, even though there were some things about the story that just didn't merit it.
