Sebastian Crawford, Duke of Hartford, only cares about duty, honor, and family. He has everything planned: his sister is engaged, and he too will select his duchess from a list of eligible debutantes. The last thing he expects is his sister to go missing a few weeks before her wedding!

Lady Theodosia Winfern hardly knew what to do with herself when a devilishly attractive duke accuses her of persuading his sister to run away from her duties. When he declares Theo will not leave his side (even if it means sleeping in his chamber) until his sister is found, Theo has little choice but to go along with his scandalous demands. The last thing she wants is the powerful duke as her enemy, not when he knows about her secret lady’s club! Both are quick to deny the increasingly fiery attraction between them until temptation becomes irresistible and passion can no longer be denied…

Love Me, If You Dare, Book 1 of the Wagers and Wallflowers series, was about His Grace Sebastian Crawford, Duke of Hartford, and Lady Theodosia "Theo" Winfern, widow of the late Viscount Winfern. When Sebastian's younger sister, Perdita, started acting in a peculiar manner, he determined to find out what was going on. Upon entering the home where his sister had been visiting for several weeks, Sebastian was surprised to find, not a gentleman who was messing around with his sister, but a woman, Theo, and several other ladies enjoying their friendship and other pastimes that most men would enjoy at a club. After confronting Theo and forcing her to tell his sister she could no longer be a member of her Lady's Club, Perdy disappeared, leaving only a brief note to her mother and brother saying she was going away for a while. Believing Theo to be responsible for his sister's actions, Sebastian kidnapped her from a ball and forced her to assist him in finding his sister. After spending several days together, during which time the chemistry and passion between Sebastian and Theo only grew stronger, he began to admit there was no way Theo had anything to do with his sister's disappearance, that it had all been done in secret by Perdy. There was a great deal of angst and drama in this story that kept the reader on their toes. The passion was sometimes subdued but mostly off the charts hot. However, the romance of the story was dimmed because of the hauteur of the Duke. He tended to blow hot then cold with Theo more often than not and he was a bit wishy-washy when it came to standing up for what he wanted when pitted against what his mother and the people of the Ton expected of him. Theo, on the other hand, knew who she was and what she wanted out of life, and she didn't let anyone stand in her way. However, with the way Sebastian often treated her, she should have had a bit of a firmer backbone in order to stand firm against him. While it was a well-written story, it left much to be desired in so many ways that it did not earn a five-star rating. The way the book ended kept it from being worthy of anything more than a three-star rating.
