Life has never been easy for Denver Hollis. But at twenty-three years old, she didn’t foresee losing everything, becoming homeless, sleeping in shelters, and sometimes on the cold city streets of New York.

One day, her luck turns. With help from an unlikely friend, Denver lands a promising job as an assistant for Callan Hawk Attorney at Law.
Callan Hawk is an attractive man. He exudes power and sex appeal. He’s also arrogant and, at times, insufferable to work with.
Ignoring the way Callan’s presence and heated stares make her feel, Denver is determined to stay focused and get her life back on the right track.
Little does Denver know, Callan has his sights set on her. After discovering Denver’s secret, he becomes more determined to protect her—make her his. Callan vows to take care of her and give her everything she never had.
Promises are made to be broken. Right?
Now Denver has to choose to walk away from the man she has fallen in love with or trust him with her heart again.

The groveling was absolute shit. He didn't even love her fully throughout the book and when some random accused her of stealing and sent her to jail, he didn't believe the FL. Not even after she begged him, he abandoned her like she was trash. Like wtf and the groveling was just him buying gifts, food and apologizing like come-on. And she was pregnant at that time too.

Keeping Denver was about Denver Hollis, a young lady who was down on her luck and homeless, and Callan Hawk, a filthy-rich divorce attorney. Denver had been sharing the rent on an apartment with a girl she had been working with for five years. She returned home one day to find the locks changed and her things sitting outside. It was then she realized her roommate had been using the money she gave towards the rent to buy drugs rather than to pay the rent. Since the roommate had also stolen from their place of work, the boss fired Denver too, thinking she had been part of the scam. Denver had no choice but to stay in a homeless shelter until she could find a new job and save money for a new place to live. Receiving some help from an older gentleman, Denver secured an interview at the law offices owned by Callan. However, the receptionist also wanted the position that Denver was applying for...that of an assistant to none other than Callan Hawk himself. So Kelly, the receptionist, did everything she could to make sure Denver didn't get the job...except she did get it. Callan wasn't an easy man to work for. He was acerbic most days, and cuttingly harsh on others. He made it known that h didn't want Denver working for him, and had even told his personal assistant to get rid of her on more than one occasion...although the older woman managed to talk him out of it each time. While the book was not very long, it still had quite a few issues that needed to be tweaked. One of those issues (IMHO) was that most of it was written with Denver's POV only. There were perhaps 2-3 chapters from Callan's POV, but not nearly enough. For most of the book, the reader is left wondering what was running through Callan's head to make him act the way he did, and it was frustrating trying to decide why he treated Denver as poorly as he did for most of the story. Another issue was the over usage of the word "Sweetheart". I mean, it seemed like every single male character used that word until it made the reader bleed gag from how "sweet" it was. The book had a good deal of angst, and a smidgeon of humor but, for the most part, it was just...frustrating. The animosity between Denver and Callan lasted for most of the story, so when the romance part of the book took off...it was a bit unrealistic. It was like coming out of a blizzard nearly frozen, only to have someone turn the heat up and nearly melt you in the next second. It just didn't coalesce. Even the ending was rushed. The characters of the story were a tad bland. There was no real introduction to them, not even MMC or the FMC. The running hot/cold (from most of the characters) just hit the wrong way. The entire cast was a mish-mash of unlikely people tossed into a soup pot with the hope of producing something even remotely palatable. The whole story was a bit rushed...and more than a bit of a mess. I couldn't give it more than a three-star rating...and this was a book I had been looking forward to reading for months. It was a tremendous letdown.
