I’m obsessed with my dad’s best friend…

He’s got a hot British accent and he’s haunted my dreams for years.
I know better than to act on my desire, so I’ve gone the extra mile– literally– and moved out of my home town to stay away from the guy. I love my dad too much to hurt him.
But when a dating app connects us after years apart, my feelings come rushing back. He’s hotter than ever, a total silver-fox. And when he meets me at my apartment, sparks fly. Clothes, too.
Is this a hook up, or does he want something real?
Either way, when my parents find out what we’ve done…
They’re going to kill us both.

Hooking Up With My Dad's Best Friend was about Katti Everly and her dad's BFF, Bryce Collingwood. Unfortunately, the story is told from a single POV...Katti's. The reader never gets to know what Bryce is thinking or feeling. It made for a very frustrating read. Katti and Bryce had known each other for years. She had wanted him for as long as she knew what desire was, but because he was her father's BFF, she knew it wasn't something that would ever happen without destroying her family. When Kattie graduated from college, her family threw her a party, during which she got drunk enough to put the moves on Bryce. However, before anything could happen between them, they were interrupted by her mother. Upon waking up the following day, she was mortified about what she had done and moved away. Side Note: Although Bryce had been celibate while they were apart, Katti had not been. She'd been with a handful of guys in an effort of trying to get over her feelings for Bryce. However, at the time the story started, she hadn't been with anyone for quite some time. Four years later, she lived in a small town several hours from her family and owned her own bookstore. Her only employee and BFF convinced her she needed to join an anonymous dating app to hook up with someone to forget her crush. So she did, only to open the door to the hookup and realize the man was Bryce. Although they were both stunned at seeing each other, they admitted to how they had wanted each other for years, so they gave in to their mutual desires. They spent a week together, and things were going well. Then Bryce took her to his stepsister's baby shower where everything fell apart just moments after their arrival. Kattie told Bryce their relationship wouldn't work, left his stepsister's home, and then ghosted him whenever he tried to contact her. It took some time, but eventually, Bryce got to see Katti again and things came to a turning point. Elle, Katti's BFF, had a heart-to-heart talk with Katti and told her a few home truths. That girl had her head on straight and didn't let Katti get away with being stupid. This wasn't the typical Insta Love story. Although Katti and Bryce both had feelings for each other earlier on in their relationship (all off-page and before the story even began), neither one forced the issue. Katti put the moves on him once when she was drunk, but it wasn't like the other typical books where she did it repeatedly. Neither did Bryce, even though he had feelings for her when she was just 18. Katti moved away and neither made any attempt at hunting the other down in the four years that filled the void. It was by pure happenstance that they eventually found each other again. Although Katti was 25 when they did hook up, she had quite a few hangups that kept them apart longer than was necessary. Bryce was willing to put everything and everyone else aside so they could be together, but she didn't want to rock the boat. Bryce's character was more developed and mature, willing to face anything for the woman he loved. Although she had ghosted him at the first sign of trouble, he hadn't given up on her, and he didn't try to hurt her in return, another unusual trait for any character in such stories. There was enough drama and angst to please the staunchest romance reader, and the emotional rollercoaster ride had plenty of twists and turns. The storyline was well written and smooth from beginning to end, with a fair amount of conflict, heartache, passion, humor, and spice to keep the reader fully engaged in the story. The book earned a five-star rating, a place with my favorite books, as well as a spot in my Keeper for the Shelves collection.
