HIS Rules by Dani Wyatt

One bite of the tofu chipotle burger at his latest venture capital investment and Rueger Marshall is hooked. But not on the food. He has eyes for the sweet and clumsy waitress with the twenty-six sloth buttons on her apron. If he has his way, she’s about to find out just what it means to be his babygirl. And, what it means to follow the rules.

Lexi Chase has three misdemeanors and a new probation mentor she’s supposed to meet. Her job at the vegan deli doesn’t offer much excitement, until the day the man with the lumberjack beard and the handmaid suit sits in her section and teaches her about destiny.

Can Rueger ever come to grips with the fantasies of Lexi wide-eyed, looking up at him with the name ‘Daddy’ on her lips? Or will questions of hidden agendas and a stack of incriminating photos end their fairytale before it can start?

HIS Rules, Book 3 of the Love, Daddy series, as well as Book 3 of the HIS Collection series, was about Lexi Chase and Rueger Marshall. Lexi had been in trouble with the law for petty theft. Reuger was her "mentor" for keeping her out of legal trouble. Unknown to Lexi, Reuger had decided she was to be his "baby girl" at first sight of her. While she lived on the West Coast, he was from the East Coast, although he determined to immediately take up residence in her hometown. This was a very fast-paced short story that had plenty of hits and misses. It hit high in the spicy section, the drama, and the angst. However, it missed more than it hit in every other area. The MMC was extremely stalkerish and controlling. I get that many people are into the lifestyle where a man controls literally every aspect of a woman's life, but it was a tad offputting for me because of the lengths the MMC went to with the FMC. There were too many secrets and not enough communication between the Dom and the Sub, and it made for a rough read. Both characters were a bit underdeveloped, but the MMC wasn't as likable as the FMC. While I don't have a problem with a man who has a "take charge" attitude, this guy was more than a bit OTT. Again, I realize it's the "lifestyle", and many will enjoy reading this short story. But I found it a bit lacking in that it didn't quite adhere to the lifestyle it portrayed. (You'll have to read it to see what I mean.) I couldn't give it more than a three-star rating, and that was generous on my part.
