Her Lovestruck Lord, Book 2 of the Wicked Husbands series, was about Lady Margaret "Maggie", Marchioness of Sandhurst, and her husband, Lord Simon, the Marquis of Sandhurst Side Note: Once again this author seems to disparage American heiresses. While she doesn't appear to have a problem with creating such characters, the words she constantly uses to describe them throughout her books are...telling. Married for almost a year, Maggie, who had married the Marquess for his title, was still untouched as her husband, Simon, had refused to consummate the marriage. Simon, who had married Maggie for her dowry, had been absent from his wife for the entirety of their marriage. Determined to create a scandal that would cause her husband, who cheated on her for their entire marriage with another married woman with whom he was "in love", to seek a divorce in order to distance himself from any scandal, Maggie attended a house party thrown by a member of the demimonde, where all those who attended were required to wear a masque for the entirety of the party. Having recently been dumped by his mistress (who had returned to her husband to produce an heir), Simon decided to attend the same house party as Maggie (unknown to both of them) to find someone to lose himself in. Maggie and Simon, though still masked and not knowing who they were with, ended up in bed together after their first meeting where, the following morning, Simon (having admitted to himself it was the best sex he'd ever experienced) ended up removing her mask while she slept, thus recognizing her. Furious that he had bedded the one woman he never wanted and also because he realized she had meant to cuckold him with another man, he left the room without revealing who he was. When his identity was inadvertently revealed to Maggie, she was appalled. When they finally confronted each other with what had happened, Simon talked her into a month-long affair in hopes of getting the lust out of his system. She only agreed if he would let her go afterward to pursue her own lovers and for her to return to America. But the fact that he asked the very first woman he encountered to sleep with him after making that agreement was hard to take. It didn't make sense how the author had Simon's character rethinking how he had handled the situation concerning his wife after only one time in her bed. One time with her and he couldn't think of any of his past paramours...didn't WANT to think of them, and he was already regretting his past treatment of her. Umm...no one changes that fast. The sudden twists and turns in this book kept the reader on pins and needles. The angst and drama were a tad over the top at times, but the most unpredictable aspect of the story was the swift changes in the main male character. Simon, while a cad of the first order, just didn't make sense. Sure he finally changed for the better, but the way he treated Maggie was despicable, and that's putting it nicely. Maggie was a sweetheart of a Heroine who got treated like scum from the beginning to nearly the end. She forgave Simon too quickly and, though she did make him grovel at the end just a bit, there were some hurts that delved too deep to forgive as quickly as she did. Simon needed a swift kick in the bollocks...and more than once. It was a veritable rollercoaster ride of a read and not always enjoyable. I have to say, once again, it wasn't worthy of a four or five-star rating, and it did not earn a place with the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
