Going in Deep, Book 4 of the Billionaire Bad Boys series, was about Kendall Parker, twin to Lexie Parker-Barnes (heroine from Book1), and Julian Dane, billionaire bad-boy (former friend to the heroes of the previous 3 books). I can't say I was looking forward to this particular book in the series. Knowing that both Kendall and Julian were instrumental in hurting the main characters in the first book although she had less responsibility than Julian since he used her without her knowledge), I really didn't want to read their story. For me, villains don't deserve a happy ever after. Yeah, I know...biased much? I guess I am. This story appeared to take place around a year after Book 1, in which Julian used Kendall to exact some petty revenge that was focused on his three former friends/partners, although the main focus had been on Kaden, who happened to be Kendall's sister's boss at that time. Not knowing that Kendall had her own mental health issues to deal with (not that it was either a good excuse OR that it would have made a difference to him if he had known), Julian toyed with Kendall and then ghosted her. Although Julian was now clean and sober...and had been for some time even before he had met Kendall...he acknowledged that he was, and always would be, an addict...even if he was now a recovering addict, he knew it wouldn't take much to send him over the edge again if he didn't stay alert. One of the things he needed to do to complete his recovery was to get closure with Kendall, but her brother-in-law, sister, and their friends made it difficult for him to get close enough to her to do so. It was an unusual story, for certain. One of the main characters was a recovering addict; the other had mental health issues. Both of them struggled with stability. Most authors usually steer clear of any kind of "handicap" in regard to the characters they create. Yet, this author created two and put them together in a relationship. There were so many twists and turns in this story that it kept the head-turning on the neck and giving the reader whiplash. It was a never-ending cycle of a new path for a different thread in the storyline...except some of those paths had no end. They just sort of...stopped and left the reader hanging mid-step with nowhere to go. It was very frustrating. The relationship between the two main characters was...well, to be honest, it was quite awkward for the most part. Whenever they would run into each other, visit each other, hook up, or talk on the phone, it was just stilted and uncomfortable. There was nothing easy or nice about this couple. All I could see was one addiction after another being fed. Well, at least the alcohol and drug abuse weren't re-visited. Just the sex addiction. Perhaps that made the reader feel the "ick factor" with this whole mess called a novella. I can't say it was an enjoyable read...because it wasn't. The way the book ended was a bit odd but acceptable. There were many things about the flow of the plot that just didn't work. Otherwise, it was an okay story. Not the best, but I've read worse. I can only award it with a 3-star rating, like all of the stories before it.
