Could you ever love the unrepentant rake who won you in a wager?

He didn’t gamble on losing his heart when he won her at the gaming tables.

Pierce, the Earl of Wainthorpe has finally thwarted his worst enemy. Except he can’t revel in his victory after winning his foe’s ward in a winner-takes-all wager. If Pierce refuses to assume Bianca Salisbury’s guardianship, the fiery-haired beauty with a matching temper may very well find herself sold to the highest bidder.

The shameful secret she guards makes it impossible to love a rogue.

Desperate to escape her blackguard cousin, Bianca Salisbury ventures to London to find a husband or employment. Instead, she’s bartered to a notorious rakehell. She either risks being compromised and accepts The Earl of Wainthorpe’s protection, or flees him and her guardian. But without money and a place to go, she fears she’ll face the same tragic fate as her mother.

Caution: This romance features a sexy, irredeemable scoundrel determined to thumb his nose at the haut ton, a saucy country miss unafraid to speak her mind but terrified of even a hint of scandal, a unlikely aristocratic matchmaker, a trio of busybody sisters you’ll adore, and a very pregnant calico that is convinced humans are only around for her convenience.

Earl of Wainthorpe, the fourth book in the Wicked Earls' Club series, was about Pierce, Earl of Wainthorpe, and Bianca Salisbury, a distant cousin to Lord Bertram Normand, Baron Fairfax, a man Wainthorpe had despised for a long time and was going to ruin in every way he could. During a card game where the stakes were high, Lord Fairfax wagered his cousin, Bianca, believing he would win. However, Wainthorpe won, thereby gaining guardianship of Bianca. I have to say I didn't really care for Bianca. While I normally admire strong-willed women, Bianca's character was over-confident, belligerent, rude, disrespectful, arrogant, and way too sure of herself. For someone who claimed to be nothing more than a country miss, the attitude she had just didn't fit. Granted, she had a hard life prior to meeting the Earl, but that didn't give her license to be such a rude young lady. Pierce had started out as a rake, but once he won Bianca in the wager, he started changing into a better person...even though most of his reputation was only a smoke-screen for the ton. Since his father had been British and his mother had been from East India, he was had been scorned by society while growing up. Because of that, he chose to snub society right back, which was what earned him his reputation. After having taken Bianca to his home in the country to keep her safe from her cousin, the two formed a tentative friendship. Pierce would give her gifts on a daily basis, such things as flowers, and other non-sequential items. There was not a great deal of drama or angst in this book. It was a pretty straightforward story with hardly any twists or turns. To be honest, there wasn't a lot of the usual back and forth animosity a reader would normally find in a book that had villains and heroes. It could actually be considered "tame" in comparison to most other historical romance novels. However, with that said, it was a decent book. It had a bit of chemistry between the two main characters and a touch of passion. But for the most part, it was what a reader might call "a gentle wooing" romance. A book that deserves a place with the other Keeper for the Shelves novels.
