Earl of Pembroke, listed as Book 10, but should probably be Book 11 after the book Earl of Benton (and Book 7 of the League of Rogues series), was about James Fordyce, the Earl of Pembroke, and Gillian Beaumont, the illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Morrey, and lady's maid to Lady Audrey Sheridan. The way the book started was a bit confusing. It was like coming into a movie theater 20 minutes late and having missed the whole point of the show. The story seemed to start several chapters into the book instead of beginning with Chapter 1. Grace was thinking of prior meetings with Pembroke, but the story so far had not brought him into the plot. I believe the reason is that, as already mentioned, this book, while part of the Wicked Earls' Club series, is also part of the League of Rogues series, thus there is more to this story in the other books. After James rescued Gillian from a dangerous situation, things heated up between them before she disappeared again. Lady Audrey intervened and told James about the house party she was to attend, thereby setting Gillian up to spend time with him. Although Gillian soon realized what Audrey had done, James was still unaware that Gillian was a maid to the other woman and requested to be allowed to court her. Unbeknown to the two of them, someone saw them kissing and set out to put a stop to their relationship. This book had a wide range of emotions, including a touch of angst, sadness, grief, joy, love, envy, and a smidge of humor. There was chemistry, romance, intrigue, and passion. All these kept the book interesting and alive, which helped earn its place with the other Keeper for the Shelves books.
