Damien Archer, Earl of Grayson and Lady Charlotte Lawson are opposite in every way. Where his coloring is dark, she has blond tresses and blue eyes. Charlotte’s alabaster skin tone is a stark contrast to Damien’s sun-kissed tan. He is tall at six feet three inches while she is short at barley over five feet tall. Furthermore, her cheerful disposition is in stark contrast to his brooding nature. But most bothersome of all is his tendency to flaunt society’s rules while she follows them without fail.

Damien desires nothing more than to spend his time carousing, drinking, and gambling while Charlotte spends hers at afternoon teas, balls, and musicals. She is a true lady and he a determined rake. When their paths cross they have every reason to turn in the opposite direction, and yet they cannot seem to avoid one another. Passions flair, putting them both at risk. They stand not only to lose their reputations, but more importantly, their hearts.

Earl of Grayson, Book 9 of the Wicked Earls' Club series (although it really should have been listed as Book 2 as it still has the Earl of Westcliff as being single, or Book 8, because in the first chapter of Earl of Grayson, the Earl of Davenport (who was featured in Book 8, was sitting in the Wicked Earls' Club and answered Grayson's question of “Who do you suppose will be next?” with, “So long as it’s not me, I don’t bloody care.” So...someone messed up here. LOL) was about Damien Archer, Earl of Grayson and Lady Charlotte Lawson, two completely opposite people who were constantly drawn to each other. He was a rule breaker and she was a rule follower. He was dark and brooding, she was was light and always cheerful. Apparently, Damien and Charlotte had a long history with each other. More than 11 years had passed since Charlotte had expected a proposal from Damien. Instead, he broke her heart by telling her he would never marry. He had given her no reason for hurting her, just left and never looked back. Now, Charlotte, deemed by the ton to be "the unattainable debutante", approached Damien with the demand for him to teach her how to seduce a man so she could find someone to marry. Although he was disinclined to help, he knew he owed her so he accepted her challenge. Both were still aware of each other, and both still had feelings that they refused to acknowledge. She was too hurt and determined to find a husband, anyone but him, and he was determined to assist her in finding someone other than himself. (On a side note, there were, unfortunately, quite a few spelling and other grammatical errors that caused a bit of stumbling in the reading of this story.) While there was long-held chemistry between the two main characters, the story was short to the point that there wasn't really time to build passion or romance. In fact, the way the story progressed left a great deal to be desired. It moved too fast and didn't develop smoothly. It was almost as if something was missing, that the author perhaps skipped a chapter or two, because one minute Damien was against marrying, the next he was proposing. It caused a great deal of confusion in the ending. It was as though the author was trying to reach for a good ending, but couldn't quite figure out how to do so efficiently. Because of how the book meandered and suffered in the last portion of the story, I couldn't in all honesty give it 5 stars or add it to the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
