It doesn’t take Crispin long to realize he’s found precisely the sort of distraction he needs in the prim governess.

But Jacinda has secrets of her own, and she’s no ordinary governess. To save herself and her father from ruin, she has agreed to infiltrate the duke’s home and search for evidence that he’s a traitor.

Resisting his advances grows more difficult by the day, however, as she discovers there’s more to Crispin than the careless life of sin he’s cultivated. And the greatest danger she faces is losing her heart to the man she has no choice but to betray.

Duke of Depravity, Book 1 of the Sins and Scoundrels series, was about His Grace Crispin Ashforth, the newly inherited Duke of Whitley, and the widow Mrs. Jacinda Turnbow, daughter of Sir Robert Smythe, well-known decipherer for the Crown. Needing to save herself and her father from ruin, Jacinda was forced against her will into becoming a simple Miss and act as a governess to the two younger sisters of the Duke of Whitley in order to spy on him and to determine whether or not he was a traitor. Trying to escape the effects of horrendous war nightmares, Crispin chose to spend his days, and nights, drinking, gambling, and debauchery. Having inherited the dukedom from his brother, he had also assumed guardianship of his two younger sisters, for whom he needed a governess. Upon interviewing Jacinda while in a state of drunkenness, the only thing that pierced his foggy mind was how much he wanted to bed her. One could say the passion score was...volcanic...from the very first moment they set eyes on each other and it never let up The angst and drama were also high, especially for Jacinda as she was out of her depth in regards to the spying on the Duke was concerned...and she hated every minute of the lying. The characters of this book were all well developed and fleshed out. The storyline and plot were well written and the book flowed easily from beginning to end. The emotions in this book were everything a reader could hope for when reading a romance/intrigue novel, with the angst and drama at the right level and the chemistry between the two main characters well meted out. This book definitely deserved a five-star rating and to be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
