Industrial heiress, Marigold Bellowes, knows that marriage is just another business transaction. She would, seeing as she’s been pursued by greedy men who only want her father’s fortune for years. But she’s determined to take her fate into her own hands and not to be a prize in a merger. So when she meets rising star of Parliament, Alexander Croydon, she sees a merger that would benefit them both instead of turning her into a useless ornament.

But Alex carries secrets that shield a broken heart. He finds Marigold clever and vivacious, dazzling at social events and sensual in bed, but he will not let himself get too close to her. Until a bitter twist of fate exposes James, Alex’s illegitimate son, and potentially the only heir he will ever have.

When revealing James as Alex’s heir makes the toddler a target for Alex’s enemies, Marigold and Alex must let go of their heartache to come together to save him. In the process, they discover a camaraderie that could lead to the love both have craved, a love that has been under their noses all along. But has it come too late, and is it enough?

August Sunrise, Book 2 of The Silver Foxes of Westminster series, was about Miss Marigold "Mari" Bellowes, an industrial heiress and the eldest daughter of the industrial tycoon Mr. Percy Bellowes, and Mr. Alexander "Alex" Croydon, MP. Marigold was tired of men wanting to court her only for her father's money. She wanted someone who had the same ideals and goals she longed to pursue, but it was difficult to find someone interested in just her...until lady Katya Stanhope introduced her to Alex. Although he was older than her by several years, he was still easy on the eyes...and he was fighting for women's causes in Parliament. Alex wasn't looking for anyone to marry. He had too many secrets to protect, and he had too much work to do for Parliament. However, when Lady Stanhope introduced him to Marigold, he could not deny the attraction he felt. Convinced by Katya that Marigold was just the woman he needed for a wife, she started arranging for them to meet at certain events, confident that Alex would propose within a month. It took only three weeks. However, as busy as Alex was during their betrothal, and up to the point of the wedding, he failed to mention to Mari that he had an illegitimate son. The morning after their wedding, he was called away to an emergency meeting in Parliament, leaving Mari to find her own way to his house and to introduce herself to his staff, even though that was something he had wanted to do. When a known nemesis of Alex's reared his ugly head, things took a tragic turn. The angst and drama were volatile in this book due to the subject matter. There was a whole gamut of emotions, a lot of heartache and disappointments, and fear...all of which nearly overtook the romance of the story. It had a decent plot, but it stayed almost one-dimensional for the longest time. The characters were well-developed, mature, and had a good dose of integrity. The villains(nesses) were easy to sniff out, but there were a lot of disappointments in regards to them. Some of the characters still needed some work. The novel didn't garner a spot with the Keeper for the Shelves collection. It was lacking in too many areas. This book didn't earn a five-star rating, mainly because of how it ended. Sure, there was the usual HEA...but was it REALLY a HEA? I'll let you decide.
